Death is a gift. Or is it?

19 is a tricky age. You’re an adult, but not quite.

19-year old me was a long-haired, skateboarding, guitar playing hippy who was trying to figure out what it meant to be a man.

And of all man’s I could be, I wanted to be a good one. A Godly one.

It’s at this age I met Josh. An early mentor.

A significant one. Who came at a significant time in my life.

(He’s also one I’ve never really spoken about).

We spent a lot of time together, and I could tell he was invested in me…

Aside from my father, he was the second most noteworthy contributor to my development as a person of faith.

Sadly, we don’t have any contact with each other anymore. But that’s ok. I believe God lead him to me for the time I needed

Many lessons were imprinted on my mind from time spent with him, but perhaps the most consequential, was something he casually once said…

“You hunger for what you feed on.”

That stuck with me.

It’s true. The more you feed on sin, the more you crave sin

… which leads only to suffering.

And the ultimate, and most natural end to suffering? Death.

So the more you crave sin, the more you’ll crave death in the end (you end up with the appetite you develop in yourself).

Here’s the sequence:

Feed on sin, and the more you crave sin (i.e. you develop an appetite for it)

Give into that craving, and naturally, you sin more.

With more sinning, comes more suffering.

And with greater suffering, you’ll tend to crave one thing:

So, is death a gift? From this perspective, yes.

In fact, death is not only the most logical solution. But also the most merciful, compassionate, and loving of all possible solutions to the soul who, instead of feeding on love, chooses sin as his food instead.

It doesn’t have to be that way.

The good news?

The more you feed on Love, the more you’ll be transformed in, and by Love.

Love leads to life, and makes life more beautiful!

And what’s that mean?

You want more of it!

Ever wonder why you don’t want to sleep when you’re excited about life?

And guess what we won’t be doing in Heaven? 😉

Noun: “the quality of being full of energy, excitement, and cheerfulness

That’s the only word I can think of to describe the feeling of Heaven: of being perpetually immersed in God’s love. (What a thought! Breathtaking isn’t it?)

So, for the soul who chooses life (aka Love) as her food – Life is the gift.

And again, for those who choose sin (aka suffering) – Death is the gift.

Choose your gift.

Choose – the key word.

You get what you CHOOSE.

Choose life, and you get life.

Choose death, and you get death.

In the end, you really do get what you want.

Choose life.

Choose love.
