How to Actually get Paid Coaching Clients

... NO business / Sales Experience Required


Not Everyone’s Going To Like You. And That’s Ok.

“I don’t know how you guys eat this stuff?!”

We were standing over the barbecue cooking vegan sausages one summer’s night in South Africa (during one of our visits)

And this was the smirky response we got from someone standing next to us at the barbecue

We’d just adopted a plant-based diet that we were trying to uphold – in defiance of the predominant meat-eating culture we’d been raised in.

…not easy. Social pressure is real.

If I’d known then what I know now (and if I’d had more confidence), I’d have responded with, 

“you don’t need to know ‘how we eat this stuff’, 

… it wasn’t made for you.”

Trying to convince them of our views on health (and reasons for adopting this new lifestyle) would have been as futile as attempting to convince a die-hard Chelsea fan that Liverpool is the best football club in the world…

Same thing happens when starting a business as a coach (or expert / leader)

It’s a tough journey. A constant battle with the inner voice:

“What do they think of me?”

“Am I doing it right?”

“Am I qualified enough?

…”Am I. Enough?”

The voices plague your mind as you search for certainty, permission, and affirmation in a world that judges what (or who) it doesn’t understand.

And sometimes you listen to the wrong people.

The truth is, you’re trying to create something special and meaningful… for your peopleYour audience. Your niche.

That means one thing:

Not everyone’s going to get it.

Not everyone’s going to like you.

And that’s ok. They’re not supposed to.

If everyone likes you, and what you’re doing, you’re most likely not creating anything remarkable.

You’re most likely creating something normal. 

Something “socially acceptable”

“Vanilla-flavored”

AVERAGE (The word makes me cringe every time…)

Yes, if everyone likes it, you’ve probably created an average product (or service / coaching program / online course, etc.)

Why? Because remarkable. Means change.

MOST people are VERY resistant to change…

And that creates tension, and instills conviction.

Which often causes polarity

Yes, your mission – the thing you’re most passionate about:

Some will love it. Others will Hate it

The desire to please people is real… an ongoing personal struggle of mine 

… Don’t do it.

Remember, it’s your change. Your journey. Your mission.

Again, not everyone’s going to get it.

So, stop listening to the crowd.

Stop trying to please the wrong audience (i.e. anyone outside of your chosen niche)

… it doesn’t matter what they think or say

If they don’t like it. 

Respond with, “that’s ok”,  

… it wasn’t made for you.”

And suddenly you’re free to focus on your people. 

The people you feel called to serve, whose problems you’re passionate to solve.
